About us
At Birds and Bees we follow a practical based outdoor curriculum in a safe and stimulating farm-based environment.
Our aim is to support our students to develop greater understanding of where their food comes from and to make healthier lifestyle choices whilst at the same time caring for their environment.
Care for our animals
Students learn how to take responsibility for caring for the daily needs and routines of our farm animals.
This activity is highly popular with students and develops their senses of empathy and compassion as well as building their confidence and a powerful sense of achievement.
Growing fruit and vegetables
Students have the opportunity to grow their own produce in outdoor and indoor environments. At Birds and Bees we follow a ‘No Dig’ approach to gardening which helps to grow plants efficiently whilst taking care of the natural environment.
Students make their own ‘No Dig bed in our allotment where they grow a range of different vegetables suited to the conditions on the Fylde coast. In our polytunnel they have the opportunity to grow a range of fruit and vegetables better suited to growing undercover.
Our programme is about education, supporting well being and personal growth. As well as learning new knowledge and skills, at Birds and Bees we aim to support:
- Mental wellbeing through time outdoors and meaningful connection
- Physical health through active, hands-on work
- Improved self-esteem through real achievement
- Confidence building through responsibility and skill development
- Curiosity and engagement through experiential learning
A holistic approach
